In late May, ten CalArts students, along with design faculty member Michael Worthington, headed for Seoul, Korea for two weeks to carry out a workshop with students and faculty at Kookmin University. Kookmin faculty and alumni Jiwon Lee and Jae Hyouk Sung were joined by Ian Lynam, visiting from Japan, as a guest critic and presenter. The workshop project involved students working with ideas of myth, cultural perception and ideas and meanings lost, or mutated, in translation. Ten students from Kookmin will be making the return trip to CalArts in late January 2015 to continue with the second part of this exchange experiment.
