Folder Studio will host the launch party for the latest issue of Ten Readers, a publication project that is written, designed and produced by Willem Henri Lucas, Brian Roettinger, Gail Swanlund, Johanna Hedva, Jessica Tan, and Jon Gacnik. Each participant has committed to make 2 books a year for 5 years.
Henri Lucas explains:
“The project was born out of the need to collaborate, but the commitment to the project to produce ten publications in the next five years (five Summer and five Winter issues) would also establish our ongoing friendship and connection.
The concept was to each create a DIY-publication on topics of their own interest. Using production tools and devices that were in reach (from our own ink jet laser printers, available Riso and Xerox machines, to digital presses and even offset printing), our design skills, but also our research-, writing-, editing-, image-making-, and book binding-skills etc. to produce 100 numbered copies, in a limited amount of time.
The six publications are collated together in a package, numbered, and sold to an audience for the symbolic gesture of $6 (a dollar per publication). The publication launches were held in cultural spaces in the city of Los Angeles.”
The event is this Saturday 2/27 from 5-8 pm at Folder Studio: 1031 N. Broadway, Los Angeles.
